A busy winter on the Promenade
November 25 to January 5: A fully lighted Promenade and
City
For the celebrations of this year-end and up to January
5, the Promenade
Is directly taking advantage of the tremendous efforts made
by the
City of Nice to illuminate the streets:
Blue stars, golden pine tree forests, lighted screens,
multicoloured pine trees…
All together, nearly 800 lighted panels and 35 Km of
lighting sets, 12
Km of lighting string and 145 lighting screens set up in 110
streets within the City.
In
December 2006: Traditional sale of Christmas trees
As usual at the eve of Christmas, a whole forest of pine
trees has grown in between the sea and the palm trees…
December
8 – January 1st: A typical Christmas fiesta from Nice
Among all the events proposed, there is a skating ring
opened to everyone, for the ultimate pleasure of the
youngest and the eldest as well, just overlooking a giant
Christmas tree offered to the City by Sweden.
On the Masséna large open-space, the « Christmas village »
is gathering about fifty handicrafts booths, around the
traditional white Christmas tree forest, the skating ring,
while inside the park Albert 1er, the City of Nice is
offering numerous activities and shows more specifically to
the children such as :theatre, ice sculpting, bubble boum,
games and face-painting.
December 10, 2006: Rowing competition across the Baie
des Anges
75 paddle boats (sea-yole, kind of light and stretched
paddle-boat) have competed this year to this traditional
event which is organised by the Nice Yacht Club, and more
than 200 paddlers from all categories did run between 6 to
12km (depending on the categories) back and forth from Rauba
Capeu to Carras. This event is now so important that the
Nice Yacht Club can enjoy the label « Open Sea Rowing ».
December 17, 2006: The Nice Highlands on the Promenade
Sheeps, goats, horses and cows, as well as logging
trucks, old tractors, timber men and shepherds, plus local
producers and handcrafters are changing the look of the
Promenade des Anglais on that special Sunday all around the
bandstand into a pastoral village, thus giving the idea to
the visitors to discover the local products of the
highlands.
December 17, 2006: 62nd Christmas swim
10:30am at the Ruhl beach: You cannot escape from the
Christmas swim which is a tradition of Nice since the end of
WW2, and it attracts many more heroes every year who are
plunging into the cool seawater, to the amaze of lots of
passers-by, who can at the same time enjoy lots of
activities like fishing contest, cyclo-cross, showcase of
ancient boats, and so on…
January
5 – 7, 2007
More than 15,000 runners expected for the 8th edition of the
Prom’Classic
Sunday, January 7, in the morning, for the first time
ever the whole stretch of the Promenade , both ways, will be
reserved for the exclusive 8th edition of the Prom’Classic
and its expected 4,300 runners and 350 volunteers : this is
a 10 kilometres run, back and forth. This run is qualifying
for the France Championship 2007.
Set in the heart of the Albert 1er park, the Running Village
will host numerous games and entertainment shows, starting
as early as Friday, January 5 at 1pm.
More than 10,000 visitors are expected to show up.

February 16 to March 4
Carnival 2007, « The King of the Very Big Scrimmage »
2007 : advance notice of huge scrimmages all over France,
as France is hosting the Rugby World Cup, and this is also
the Presidential election.
In Nice, all along the Promenade, the 2007 edition of the
Carnival will be the right time to make fun out of those
coming important competitions.
« Carnival 2007, The King of the Very Big Scrimmage » will
be officially launched surrounded by 1,000 pupils from the
region of Nice, as an appetizer of a very attractive 2007
edition full of good news to everyone, such as a free access
to the parade, real incentive to let people be costumed,
face-painters everywhere, games in the Albert 1er park and
160 carnival and street performers, all this to create a
unique festive atmosphere around the carnival floats.
Schedule:
Friday, February 16, 9pm: Arrival of the King with the
pupils
5 flower parades, 2 carnival float parades and 5 lighted
parades later in the evening
Sunday March 4 : 2 :30pm : The Great Carnival Parade – 9pm :
the King’s burning and fireworks.
